Apostille in Uzbekistan: Documents, Steps, and Translation

A researched guide to apostilling documents in Uzbekistan: what an apostille confirms, official timing, common exclusions, translation order, and preparation.

Apostille in Uzbekistan: Documents, Steps, and Translation
Tashkent

An apostille is a special certificate used to confirm the authenticity of the signature, the signer’s capacity, and the seal or stamp on a public document for use in another Hague Apostille Convention country. It does not translate the document and does not certify that the document’s statements are substantively true.

Before ordering, confirm three things with the recipient: whether the destination accepts an apostille, which document must be apostilled, and whether the translation must be completed before or after the apostille.

What the official Uzbek service says

The Unified Public Services Portal apostille service lists an ordinary service period of two working days and notes that it may take up to ten working days when necessary. It also identifies the competent authorities and the supporting document required for the online application. Fees and rules can change, so check the portal on the day you apply.

Uzbek government guidance states that apostilles are not placed on an Uzbek citizen’s passport, ID card, or military ID, and not on documents directly related to commercial or customs operations. The correct alternative depends on the document and destination.

Documents commonly considered

  • Education documents such as diplomas, certificates, and academic attachments
  • Civil-status records such as birth, marriage, divorce, or death certificates
  • Notarial documents and eligible notarized copies
  • Court, justice, prosecution, and other qualifying public documents
  • Other official records when the issuing and destination rules permit apostille

Apostille first or translation first?

There is no universal sequence. A destination may want the apostille attached to the original and then the entire set translated. Another may require a notarized translation that is itself handled in a specific way. Ask the exact recipient, not only a friend who completed a similar process.

For academic use, see the separate diploma recognition and translation guide. Recognition in Uzbekistan and preparing an Uzbek document for foreign use are opposite workflows.

Preparation checklist

  1. Confirm that the destination country and receiving body accept apostille.
  2. Identify the exact original, copy, or notarial document to be apostilled.
  3. Check whether the record needs a fresh duplicate or correction first.
  4. Confirm the required translation language and certification method.
  5. Apply through the current official channel and allow buffer time.
  6. Translate the apostille page as well if the recipient requires a full translation.

Avoid these costly assumptions

Do not promise a one-day result, assume every document is eligible, or translate before checking the required order. Do not rely on an old fee screenshot. The official portal and receiving institution are the sources that matter at the time of submission.
